Los Angeles - Denver
June 6th - 11th, 2007
June 6th
All teams dropped off their cars, received their welcome gear and off they went for the first party. The always hip Mondrian Hotel with its infamous Skybar was the hotel of the night.
June 7th
Breakfast was served during drivers orientation. To make sure that all teams arrive in time (and in style) at the California Speedway, the organizers arranged for a 60 mile high speed police escort from the hotel to the racetrack. Lunch was squeezed in between hotlaps at the race track. The first Poker Card was handed out. Then it was off to Vegas, baby! The hotel of the night was ‘The Hotel At Mandalay Bay’, Dinner was served at ‘Mix’ on top of The Hotel, and what happened after dinner stays in Vegas.
June 8th
Leaving Las Vegas (officially) fashionably late at 12pm gave all teams enough time to relax and prepare for today’s drive. The destination of the day was the ‘Hotel Monaco’ in downtown Salt Lake City. The drive was only interrupted by a short, but heavy rain storm and a perfect photo op at Zion National Park to pick up the next poker card.
Dinner was served at the hotel, followed by a party in a private mansion.
June 9th
It was another epic day in the history of Playersrun. Thanks to a police escort the teams made it quickly out of Salt Lake City. 100 miles of incredible driving in the Utah plains were followed by even more dramatic scenery in the Moab desert. Today’s poker card was handed out at Moab Airport. A fleet of airplanes then took the teams on a breath taking flight over the incredible Moab region. Then it was time to leave the desert towards their final (high altitude) destination: The ‘Little Nell’ in Aspen, Colorado. The day’s stories were exchanged during dinner at ‘Cache Cache’ and the party continued until the early morning hours.
June 10th
The last driving day was nothing short than spectacular: 4 high altitude passes, the highest city in the US, even ‘The Shining” was part of today’s drive. Independence Pass was the first pass to conquer, followed by lunch in Leadville, the highest city in the US. From there the route lead to Berthoud Pass, Winter Park ski area and Rocky Mountain National Park. The last Poker Card was then picked up at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. It was another hour to Rotors Of The Rockies at Broomfield Airport where Denver Police was waiting to escort the teams to their final destination Larimer Square, Denver and the Hotel Monaco. The black tie awards ceremony, with Team Roy Cats winning best car, Team Rachel Larret winning best spirit and Team Yannik Silver winning best costume was followed by an all night party in the Mile High City.

For many it was time to say good bye to new (and old) friends. It will take time, weeks and months to properly file the overload of impressions. For some it was the drive of their life, for most of them it was the drive of their life… until next year. For all of them it was memories and friendships.
